Forklifts: Off-Road Large Spark-Ignition (LSI) Rule

Mark Williams, CARB Off-Road Mobile Source Control Division

Forklifts fueled by gasoline, natural gas or propane must reduce emissions through retrofit or replacement with electric or cleaner LSI engines. Companies that operate four or more forklifts greater than 25 horsepower need to conduct a baseline inventory and maintain compliance records. The rule includes fleet averaging, new engine certification standards, retrofit verification standards and record keeping. CARB enforcement is schedule to begin after April 1, 2009.

What You Need to Know When Purchasing New Forklifts
Chris Roy, Kenco Group

Do I have to go electric? Should I? Can I stay on liquid propane? How much will it cost? What questions do I need to ask of my materials handling equipment vendor? This session will attempt to provide answers to your questions from a needs-based and purchasing point of view.

SmartWay: Heavy-Duty Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Rule
Stephan Lemieux, Mobile Source Control Division

This regulation requires the use of low-rolling resistance tires and aerodynamic equipment for heavy-duty tractors and 53-foot trailers operating in California including inter-state carriers. Shipper defined as owners of freight, distribution centers and temporary freight storage facilities. Enforcement penalties can be issued to California distribution centers for loading out non-compliant equipment.
